Pamela Malenfant, President
 

 

   

Pam was born and raised in Muskegon, MI. She married Dick in 1972. They adopted their son Ray in 1984 when he was six weeks old. They moved to Stevensville, MI in 1991. Pam graduated from Muskegon Community College with an associates degree as a LPN in 1970. After about five years of working, she returned to school and received her registered nursing degree from Ferris State. She worked in Muskegon until 1990, when she retired on disability. Pam enjoys crafts, sewing, reading, and going to the YMCA.

Pam was diagnosed with classical Type EDS in 1964 by a plastic surgeon. Pam and Dick have attended all the EDNF conferences since 1992. They have been active in the Michiana EDNF support group since its inception.

 

Mark Lavallee, M.D., F.A.C.S.M., Vice President
 

 

 

Mark received both his undergraduate and medical school degrees from Pennsylvania State University. After his Family Practice Residency in York, PA, he completed a Fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine in Springfield, PA. Mark was recruited by the Memorial Family Practice Residency to start the South Bend Sports Medicine Fellowship, where he currently acts as its co-director. He sees Ehlers-Danlos, sports medicine, and family practice patients in his clinic at the Sports Medicine Institute in South Bend, Indiana.

Mark is a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and has a faculty appointment as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at Indiana University College of Medicine. He was lead author for the AFP Monograph Series on Fractures and Dislocations, Vol. 1 & 2 (2002). Locally, Mark is the team physician for two area high school athletic programs, head team physician for Indiana University South Bend, medical director of the Sunburst Race, and is a member of the sports medicine team caring for the athletes at the University of Notre Dame. He is an avid weightlifter and is a team physician for USA Weightlifting.

Mark has been an active member of the EDNF since 1988, serving on the EDNF Board of Directors since 2000. In 2004, he was appointed as Chairman of the reorganized EDNF Professional Advisory Council (formerly the Scientific/Medical Advisory Board).

Mark enjoys many outdoor activities with his wife, Tara, and two sons, Thomas and Sean. Both Mark and his son, Tommy, have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.

 

Richard Malenfant, Treasurer
 

 

 

Dick originates from Muskegon, MI, one of eight children. He married Pam in 1972. They adopted their son Ray in 1984, when he was six weeks old. They moved to Stevensville, MI in 1991. Dick graduated in 1977 from Ferris State with a BS in Accounting. He has also earned his masters in Business Administration from Grand Valley and a masters in Public Health Administration from the University of Michigan. He is currently Senior Accountant at Shepherd Hardware Products in Three Oaks, MI. Dick enjoys running, golfing, and going to the YMCA.

Dick and Pam have attended each EDNF conference since 1992. Dick was on the EDNF National Board of Directors since 1998, acting as their treasurer since 1999. He is also treasurer of the Michiana EDNF group.


Erin Janicki, Secretary
 
 

Erin Janicki was born in South Bend and has lived there her whole life. She recently graduated from Indiana University South Bend, with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with an Endorsement in English as a Second Language.

Erin was adopted at birth and was thought to have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome in 1996, when she was treated at Riley's Children's Hospital. It was later confirmed in 2004 by Dr. Lavallee. Erin began serving as secretary for the Michiana EDNF group in 2005.
